In response to the Transition Town movement founded in the U.K in 2005 and its rapid growth worldwide, Transition Perth was started in June 2009 by a few keen and energetic residents. Eager to build community resilience to help address potential economic and environmental challenges, interest and membership in the Transition Perth initiative has continued to grow as a result.
Based on the Transition Town model, and inspired by permaculture philosophy, Transition Perth has hosted a variety of fun and educational community events. These include film and discussion evenings, gift bazaar and services swap gatherings, veggie garden tours, fruit propagation and tree grafting workshops, a solar cooker demo, and funding for the acquisition of transition themed books for the local library.
Transition Perth continues to plan and implement local events that foster community resilience and a sense of well being in these challenging times. We welcome and encourage individuals, groups, and organizations to become involved . Together we can create and maintain a sustainable and vibrant local community for ourselves, each other, and future generations.
